Q: Windows 2000/ME Japanese IME settings? (fonts
not displaying?)
A: Please use the Microsoft AppLocale Utility to set the region for JquickTrans.
Q: Fonts are not showing up correctly?
A: Run explorer and browse
to the /windows/fonts directory. Close explorer and try running
JQT again.
Q: JquickTransXXXX.exe setup fails to run or asks for more disks etc...?
A: Check the byte count!
(Rightclick
-> Properties on the file, you may want to use GetRight
or NetVampire)
Q: My settings are messed up/some JQT features don't work!!!
A: You need to delete your
JquickTrans registry settings. Regedit is a registry editing program
included with windows.
To delete the registry stuff:
1. goto the windows Start -> Run
2. type "regedit" and it will open the program
3. using the tree at left browse to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER... Software... JquickTrans
4. highlight "jquicktrans" and press the delete key to delete
the settings.
This should reset all the settings and hopefully fix the problem. If not try deleting the folder and reinstalling so no files from the old version remain. (save your study lists though)
Q: I got prompted to find "radkanji.dat" or "edict" or some other file when I started JQT!?
A: Are you re-installing JQT to a different path than before? If so, please see above for how to delete your registry settings. There is also the possibility that some file names or directories with strange characters in them will make it difficult for JQT to find its configuration files. In this case just install to a directory path with only English characters.
Q: When I try to Print/Print Preview, it crashes?
A: Use the Internet Explorer button (the button in the Study List toolbar with the IE "e" on it) to view it in IExplorer and then print from there. Or Rightclick (on the list of words/kanji) -> Save As... to save as HTML or Excel formated files etc. and use those programs to print them. Or try a fresh reboot and see if freeing up memory helps. Try to avoid printing lists of thousands of items.
Q: How do I make the pop-up hints stay visible?
A: Set the Options -> Hints -> Hint Pause very high.
Q: I want to ADD words to the dictionary, fix things!?
A: You can edit the "edict.jqd" file to modify the dictionary. You must maintain the format and SJIS encoding. You can also modify the "kanjidic" file. After modifying files, you should delete all the ".ndx" files. They will automatically be regenerated once you re-start JQT. To suggest words to the Edict Project read the Contribution section here.
Q: Windows2000/ME Japanese IME settings? (fonts not displaying?)
A: The trick is not just installing
the Japanese IME, but also going to:
Control Panel->Regional Options->General (Tab):
1. In the "Language settings for the system" checklist box...
2. Highlight "Japanese" and click the "Set default..."
button.
That seems to enable Japanese in system menus, filenames and
the Japanese IME.
